What Is Texas Hold'em?
Texas Hold'em is the world's most popular variant of poker — and for good reason. The game combines straightforward rules with deep strategic layers, making it equally enjoyable for complete beginners in Dhaka and seasoned players who have spent years at the felt.
Each player receives two private cards (known as "hole cards") dealt face down. Five community cards are then placed on the board in three stages — the flop (three cards), the turn (one card), and the river (one final card). Players use any combination of their two hole cards and the five community cards to build the strongest possible five-card poker hand.
At ra99, you can join Texas Hold'em cash tables from as little as ৳50 per hand, or enter multi-table tournaments with prize pools that scale into the thousands of taka. All tables are available in English, with real-time action that runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Texas Hold'em Hand Rankings
From the unbeatable Royal Flush to the humble High Card, knowing the value of each hand is the first step to winning at ra99's poker tables.
Royal Flush
A, K, Q, J, 10 — all of the same suit. The absolute best hand in poker. Cannot be beaten.
Straight Flush
Five consecutive cards of the same suit. Example: 7-8-9-10-J of clubs.
Four of a Kind
All four cards of the same rank. The fifth card (kicker) breaks ties.
Full House
Three of a kind combined with a pair. The higher three-of-a-kind rank wins ties.
Flush
Any five cards of the same suit, not in sequence. Highest card determines the winner.
Straight
Five consecutive cards of mixed suits. Ace can play high (A-K-Q-J-10) or low (A-2-3-4-5).
Three of a Kind
Three cards of the same rank. Also called "trips" when using one hole card, "a set" when using both.
Two Pair
Two separate pairs. If both players share the same two pairs, the kicker (fifth card) wins.
One Pair
Two cards of matching rank. The most commonly made hand in a typical Hold'em game.
High Card
No combination formed. The highest single card in the hand plays. Ace-high beats king-high, and so on.
How to Play a Hand of Texas Hold'em
Each hand at ra99 follows the same structure — six clear stages from the first blind to the final showdown.
Post the Blinds
The two players to the left of the dealer button post the small blind and big blind. These are forced bets that seed the pot and ensure action in every hand.
Receive Hole Cards (Pre-Flop)
Each player is dealt two private cards face down. The first betting round begins with the player to the left of the big blind. Options: fold, call, or raise.
The Flop
Three community cards are dealt face up on the board. A second betting round follows, starting with the first active player to the left of the dealer button.
The Turn
A fourth community card is dealt. Another betting round occurs. Stakes typically double in limit games; in no-limit games the pot can escalate quickly here.
The River
The fifth and final community card is revealed. The last betting round takes place. This is your final chance to bluff, value-bet, or fold before showdown.
The Showdown
Remaining players reveal their hole cards. The player with the best five-card hand wins the pot. In case of a tie, the pot is split equally between winners.
Winning Strategy Tips
Texas Hold'em rewards patience, discipline, and an understanding of probability. Whether you are just starting out in Sylhet or playing your hundredth session from Mymensingh, these strategy principles will help you make better decisions at the ra99 tables.
Remember: no strategy guarantees a win every session. Variance is part of the game. Apply these tips consistently over many hands, and your long-term results will improve.
Play Fewer Hands, Play Them Well
New players often make the mistake of calling with any two cards. As a beginner, limit yourself to playing strong starting hands — high pairs (QQ, KK, AA), Broadway cards (A-K, A-Q, K-Q), and suited connectors from late position. Folding weak hands before the flop is almost always the right move.
Understand Positional Advantage
Your position at the table relative to the dealer button is one of the most powerful factors in Hold'em. Being in late position (acting after most opponents) gives you more information before you commit chips. Play more hands in late position and tighten up significantly from early positions.
Think in Terms of Pot Odds
Before calling a bet, compare the size of the call to the size of the pot. If the pot contains ৳1,000 and your opponent bets ৳200, you are getting 6:1 pot odds. Understanding whether those odds justify calling with a drawing hand is a core mathematical skill that separates winning players from losing ones.
Control Your Emotions (Avoid Tilt)
"Tilt" is the state of emotionally compromised play that follows a bad beat or a losing streak. When you feel frustrated, angry, or impulsive at the tables, take a break. More money is lost to tilt than to any other single factor in poker. Set a session loss limit — for example ৳1,000 — and walk away when you hit it.
Observe Your Opponents
Even when you are not in a hand, pay close attention to how other players at the ra99 table are betting. Look for patterns: Does a player only raise with premium hands? Does another player call every bet regardless of the board? Identifying these tendencies lets you exploit them when it matters most.
Mix Up Your Play
Predictable players are easy to beat. Occasionally bluff in spots where the board favours your perceived range. Occasionally slow-play a strong hand to trap an aggressive opponent. Keeping opponents uncertain about the strength of your holdings makes you significantly harder to play against over multiple sessions.

Poker Glossary
New to the terminology? This quick-reference glossary covers the most commonly used Texas Hold'em terms you will encounter at the ra99 tables. Bookmark this page and refer back to it whenever you come across an unfamiliar word during play.
- Blinds
- Forced bets posted by the two players to the left of the dealer button before cards are dealt. The small blind is typically half the size of the big blind.
- Hole Cards
- The two private cards dealt face down to each player at the start of every hand. Only you can see them.
- Community Cards
- The five shared cards placed face up on the board (three on the flop, one on the turn, one on the river). All players use them to build their hand.
- Check
- To pass the action to the next player without betting, when no bet has yet been made in the current round. Available only when you are not facing a bet.
- Raise
- To increase the size of the current bet. In no-limit Hold'em, you can raise to any amount up to your entire chip stack.
- All-In
- Wagering all of your remaining chips in a single bet. If called, a side pot is created for any chips bet beyond your stack.
- Pot Odds
- The ratio of the current pot size to the cost of a contemplated call. Used to calculate whether calling a bet is mathematically profitable over the long run.
- Bluff
- Betting or raising with a weak hand to make opponents fold stronger holdings. A well-timed bluff is one of the most powerful tools in poker.
- Kicker
- The highest unpaired side card used to break ties when two players hold the same primary hand rank (e.g., both have a pair of Kings).
- Button
- The dealer button — a plastic disc that rotates clockwise after each hand. The player on the button acts last post-flop, giving them a significant strategic advantage.
- Bad Beat
- When a statistically strong hand loses to a weaker hand that improves unexpectedly on the turn or river. A frustrating but unavoidable part of the game.
- Bankroll Management
- The discipline of only risking a small percentage of your total funds at any stake level. Proper bankroll management is essential for long-term success and responsible gaming.
